The Flintstones Slot Review

GOSU GAME REVIEW

We were most happily taken aback to see that Blueprint Gaming put out a Flintstones game back at the end of May. We do not know how we missed this release, but once we saw it was out, we knew that we had to review it. If you know anything about Blueprint, you are likely aware that this supplier has multiple branded games, and it has no problem paying for likeness licenses. Their Goonies series of spinners have been massive hits, and their Ted titles, based on the Seth MacFarlane franchise, have also done quite well.

In the press release for The Flintstones, Jo Purvis’ Blueprint’s Director of Marketing, stated that this product seeks to provide engaging features and stimulating gameplay while staying faithful to the show’s classic artwork. At first glance, it does just that. The slot appeared online on May 29th, 2024, and for some reason, we could not find ranking data for it. That appears to be the case because its distribution has gotten pushed back to August in many markets. Still, we played this game, and we are eager to give you what we thought of our Yaba Daba Do gaming experience.

Theme & Design

Produced by the legendary Hanna-Barbera Productions, which made famed cartoon series like Yogi Bear, Scooby-Doo, The Jetsons, Top Cat, The Smurfs, and Jonny Quest, The Flintstones was an animated sitcom that left its mark on American culture. It followed the lives of Fred and Wilma, their neighbors Barney and Betty, and their pet dinosaur – Dino. The initial series ran for six seasons and was the most successful animated show until The Simpsons came onto the scene and surpassed the numbers posted by this Stone Age comedy, whose official run happened between 1960 and 1966.

It is important to note that this is not the first Flintstones spinner. Playtech released one in 2016. It had a 5×4 layout, 1,024 paylines, a progressive jackpot, and the Great Gazoo Free games. We are unsure if you can still find that product anywhere, but we thought we should mention it, as it also was super faithful to the based series.

If you have watched The Flintstones, then we do not have to talk much about the presentation of this Blueprint Gaming release, as all the characters and the illustration style used here match the one in the show. The setting is a yard in Bedrock, which we assume is Fred’s, and the reels here spin inside a blue structure with a progression bar at the top and four listed  cash pots to its left. The overall presentation in The Flintstones feels a bit static, but it features the five main characters of the 1960s series, and the music used is soft and does not overpower what occurs on the reels. Still, we would have liked to see something more dynamic in this game. It only seems to come alive when you are close to landing a bonus round entry and in the free spin round.

Concerning the interface, you have the spin functions left of the reel grid, with the mute button above your credit info. The settings icon and the bet selector sit below the jackpot award boards.

Specs & Gameplay

The variance math model used in The Flintstones by Blueprint Gaming is medium-high. The bet sizes here move from $0.10 to a maximum of $25 per gaming round. The RTP stands at below-than-average 95%, which we found a tad strange given the variance utilized, and the top win is an acceptable ten thousand times your stake. The grid this game uses is a standard 5×3 one with ten paylines.

You get rewarded in this slot if you hit three to five identical tokens from two groups on a defined payline. The first are four low-pay different-colored royals, producing wins of x5 to x7.5 for five-of-a-kind match sequences. The second is image premiums that generate wins of x10 to x100 when five identical tokens from this group land on a spin. Dino is the wild of The Flintstones, and Barney and Fred are the scatter, appearing only in the middle three. They cannot get substituted by Dino, who only substitutes regular pay tokens.

Bonus Features

In The Flintstones slot, the Yabba Dabba Doo! feature can trigger randomly. When it does, it will award the Bonus Boost, add extra scatters, or throw Dino Wilds onto the grid. That said, the more important bonus mode here is cash collection, occurring through the Collect Fred symbol. When a money value hits on the first four reels and Fred on the rightmost one, then – cash collection activates. That means that Fred will expand and gather the values. Landing a cash pot awards the corresponding jackpot/pot value, or x10 – Mini, x25 – Minor, x100 – Major, or x2,000 – Mega. As more collect symbols appear, you unlock additional collection features. These are Respin Fred, Boost Fred, Max Collect Fred, and Super Collect Fred.

You enter the free spin bonus of this slot by landing three scatters, which gives you ten gratis rounds, where Fred symbols get collected, leading to extra free spins and respective multipliers up to x10 for the collected money values. There is also a Super Free Spins symbol, which will debut on the fourth reel after you collect the base game trail. Landing two scatters and this super token triggers the Super Spins Bonus, where Fred gets guaranteed to hit.

GOSU Verdict

The Flintstones slot was not as good as we had hoped. We do not wish to appear overly negative in our game reviews, but we want to build a reputation that when we tell you something is a must-try, you know that the chance of you liking that title will be high because it will be one of a certain quality. The Flintstones is Okay, but it does not come close to some of Blueprint’s Goonies games or other releases. If you are a fan of the show, give it a try. If not, we see no reason for you to play this online spinner.
