We noticed some time back that Relax Gaming had added Endrophina to its aggregator content portfolio, and we also saw that it joined forces with AvatarUX (renowned for their PopWins games) for the latter to deliver its products on Relax’s famous Silver Bullet platform. So, we decided to check out what slots Relax has released that may have missed our eye. Joker Split is a medieval-themed spinner that the company advertises as a journey through time and a treasure trove of entertainment. Hence, we decided to explore it.

It shocked us to learn that the last time we reviewed a Relax game was in April 2023 (Wild Chapo 2). Thus, another Relax slot scan has been long overdue. Joker Split debuted at exclusive sites on August 23rd and then got a wide release on September 5th. From what we can tell, in the first week of its release, it has piqued some interest in Canada, Scandinavia, and specific South American markets. Let us see for ourselves what it has to offer.

Theme & Design

The word jester originated during Tudor times or the 16th century, deriving from the Anglo-Norman jestour, meaning storyteller. These were members of noble households whose jobs were to entertain others. They were also traveling performers who specialized in various skills such as juggling, acrobatics, music, illusions, and more. It is not entirely clear why their likeness got adopted as wilds in card games, but historians believe this occurred around the mid-19th century and that it first happened in the game of Euchre. In the slotverse, Jokers are a popular motif, as some six hundred slots utilize these characters in some form or fashion. Some popular ones are Fire and Roses Joker by Triple Edge Studios, Pragmatic Play’s Joker’s Jewels (which we have reviewed), and Fire Joker from Play’n Go.

In our opinion, Relax has done a pretty good job with the presentation here. The image quality of the Medieval city backdrop is pretty nice, featuring an eye-pleasing color palette, some depth, moving clouds, and waving flags. The reels here spin inside a wooden frame, and the music is an unoriginal theme inspired by the setting’s period. It is a bit quiet, allowing the sound effects of Joker Split to shine.

The betting panel in this slot is the one you have seen in other Relax releases. Its bet adjuster and spin functions lay below the game grid, with your win/balance info on the right of them. In the left section of this bottom screen configuration, you will find the Bonus Buy button and the hamburger icon that provides access to the info and settings pages. Plus, it lets you mute the audio.

Overall, while some are likely to say that the audio-visual stylings of Joker Split do not pop and dazzle. Now, while we agree, we would call them soothing and pleasantly enjoyable. They are nothing impressive, but they did calm us when we spun this game’s reels.

The reel-spinning action in Joker Split happens on a 6×6 layout that incorporates the cluster-pay system of win-forming. The variance here is high. The RTP stands at 96.1%, the betting range moves from $0.1 to $50, and the max win has gotten set at x20,000. Oh, the high frequency is an average of 26.35.

To snag rewards in this Relax title, you must form clusters of at least five matching symbols. That means that these tokens will form groups where they get linked to each other. The low-paying ones are blue, green, and red gems that pay x0.3 for five-of-a-kind clusters and x10 when fifteen or more groups of identical gems appear on the same spin. The premiums of this slot are blue dice, juggling clubs, and two checkered balls that jugglers stand on. Clusters of fifteen or more from this batch pay wins of x20. The golden crown is the most valuable premium in Joker Split, supplying wins from x1 all the way up to x30.

You will encounter two wilds in this game, and these may have multipliers attached that get applied to prize clusters that multiplier wilds helped form. Joker Split also has a scatter, which is a golden B.

Bonus Features

If we are frank, it is all about splitting wilds in this game. We guess that should have been obvious to us by the name of this slot. When a wild participates in a reward-yielding cluster, he will pop out of the grid, replicating himself and initiating a respin. When the respin happens, a previously excused jester will make a comeback to the 6×6 area. Know that if it tries to assume a position already occupied by a wild, and they both have multipliers, these will get joined (added together).

When you hit three to five golden B letter scatters, Joker Splits will give you five, six, or seven complimentary spins. Respins can get activated in this round, and all wilds that hit but do not assist in a win leave the symbol layout, get stored outside it, and return to the grid on the first bonus round respin. If you land a scatter in this feature, you will get awarded one more free spin. Entry into this round is possible via the Bonus Buy option for a price of x100. Also, Relax allows you to purchase an extra spin after this bonus mode concludes if the stored multipliers do not surpass x200.
