Crazy Time Live Game Show Review

GOSU GAME REVIEW

Ah, live game show games. One of the industry’s most successful experiments. Evolution Gaming, the top dog in the sphere, is behind this project. An endeavor that began in 2017 with the release of Dream Catcher. Realistically, Evolution is the only company that can afford the production value necessary for these titles to keep modern players engaged. It is their most expensive product ever, and they advertise it as their craziest and most fun game yet. First presented at the ICE London Expo in February of 2020 and launched in July of that same year, it is, in essence, a super-enhanced version of Big Six, sometimes also called the Wheel of Fortune. It offers a unique blend of live and RNG gameplay with multipliers that go up to x25,000.

Theme & Design

What’s the theme of Crazy Time? Well, it’s wheel-spinning action fused with some Alice in Wonderland and carnival-inspired visuals. One thing that we can reference is the 2009 Terry Gilliam film – The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus. If you’ve seen that movie, know that the presentation here gives off similar vibes.

So, before popping open this title in your browser, brace yourself, and get ready to see a lot of colors and spirals. Know that the Crazy Time male presenters sometimes dress up like ringmasters. At least, that’s the kind of jacket they don to fit in with their vibrant surroundings. In other instances, they wear colorful suits, while the female presenters usually have a dress on and heels.

There is no doubt that Evolution has spent a pretty penny to equip the Crazy Time studio, and things get super-crazy when you enter the bonus round of the same name. There, the presenter steps in front of a green screen, and that’s when the visual feast happens, as you enter a cartoon-like world en route to big prizes.

The game’s interface is simple. You get your wager options at the bottom of your screen. They are semi-transparent and skewed in such a way that makes it seem like you are placing bets on a non-existing table. You can look at your balance and total bet size in the lower-left corner, and you can exit the game via buttons on your lower right. The chat is on your left, and the settings/info/mute buttons are on your top right.

Specs & Gameplay

As mentioned, Crazy Time is a variation on the Wheel of Fortune concept. It features a wheel similar to that found in Evolution’s other popular titles, Dream Catcher and Monopoly Live. Some players refer to it as an upgrade of Dream Catcher, and they aren’t wrong.

Crazy Time’s money wheel has fifty-four pockets and eight possible outcomes. You can bet on the four multipliers, x1, x2, x5, and x10, or the four bonus games Pachinko, Cash Hunt, Coin Flip, and Crazy Time. Of course, the multipliers take up most of the wheel’s pockets, and nine feature the bonus round symbols. Above the wheel are two reels, which Evolution calls the Top Slot. When in the base game, the Top Slot’s reels rotate along with the money wheel. These reels feature the same symbols as the ones on the wheel, and if you land the same one in both places, you will get the reel multiplier added to your overall win. The Top Slot’s max multiplier is x50.

You have fifteen seconds to place a bet between rounds, and the game’s RTP depends on your chosen pocket. If you bet on one of the number one pockets of the twenty-one available, the return-to-player will be a game-high of 96.08%. There is only one Crazy Time pocket, so it has the lowest RTP, but that’s where you can get an x20,000 multiplier.

Bonus Features

We already explained what the Top Slot is, and we guess that you could call that a bonus feature, even though it is part of the base gameplay. The real bonus rounds are Coin Flip, Cash Hunt, Pachinko, and Crazy Time, listed in ascending win-potential order.

Coin Flip is what you think it is, a flip of a coin. If the wheel stops on this bonus round, the presenter walks to a slot-like frame, which features a large monitor and an ejection pod. The screen randomly selects multiplier values for the blue and red sides of the coin. The presenter then places it in the ejection pod, which shoots it out. Depending on whichever side it lands, red or blue, you win the associated multiplier.

Cash Hunt tries to emulate fairground shooting gallery contests. First, this round’s screen displays a grid of 108 random multipliers. Then, it covers them up with symbols and shuffles them. You then have to pick one. If you don’t, the game will do it for you at random. Then, it will reveal all multipliers underneath each symbol, telling you what you have won.

Pachinko is Plinko. The presenter walks over to a Plinko board, picks up a puck, and lets it drop from wherever an algorithm tells him/her. The software picks the spot at random. There are multipliers at each bottom position, and if the puck land in the one you selected, your win gets appropriately multiplied. There is also one Double pocket, which doubles all multipliers on the board and gives you another drop, with a chance to win way more than before. The max multiplier you can reach in this round is x10,000.

If the wheel stops at the Crazy Time pocket, the presenter goes through a red door and enters a fun virtual world with a gigantic wheel. This wheel has three stoppers, a blue, green, and yellow one. You pick one, and whatever pocket lands on it, that’s the prize you win. There are Double and Triple pockets. If one of these lands on your stopper, all multipliers get doubled or tripled, and you get another spin with only your selected stopper active. If the wheel again stops at either the Double or Triple pocket, this process repeats. It can keep happening until you reach the max win of x20,000.

GOSU Verdict

Crazy Time is the most ambitious game that anyone in the iGaming industry has released. Its production values are high, particularly in the Crazy Time bonus round, and its win potential is nothing to scoff at and ignore. When you think about it, it lets you play four games in one, so it should keep you on the edge of your seat for long periods before you get bored with it. Everyone talks about innovation in online gambling. Well, this is a prime example of it. Even if you are not a fan of live games, you should give Crazy Time some of your time and test it out at least once.
