LCS about to be canceled?

News are coming in hot regarding the League Championship Series over in the States. According to LCSPA, there has been an overwhelming vote to walk out, which has received a harsh reply from Riot Games, even stating that in the event no agreement is reached, the whole LCS would be canceled.

But let’s start from the very beginning, as not all of our readers may know what this is about, LCS is the League of Legends (LOL) championship in North America. For those unfamiliar with LoL, the game is a renowned team-based strategy game developed by Riot Games. During the game, 2 teams have to fight each other on different maps, while farming gold killing minions, destroying towers, and killing enemy champions. It first came out almost 15 years ago and is one of the biggest e-sports nowadays.

Now that everyone is aware of what LoL is, let’s talk about where all of this is coming from. Riot Games has decided to change how the League works, reducing the number of participating teams from 16 to 7. The company has claimed financial viability to defend the move, but even if the CLS doesn’t really have a long history, the response from the players came united. As the LCSPA announced on Twitter, professional players have decided to walk out consequences to the changes made by Riot without previously discussing them with the teams and players.

Of course, Riot has addressed the situation and stated that if no agreement is reached in 2 weeks, the LCS Summer season would be canceled and the LCS teams wouldn’t be able to participate in the Worlds tournament. LCSPA did publish another statement on the issue after this reply from Riot, but no further press release has been given out on their Twitter account.
