In this article, we would like to take a look at some of our favorite casino movies of all time. Needless to say that there are many more casino movies around. Feel free to comment with your favorite casino movies.

Casino – 1995

Based on the book by Nicholas Pileggi, Casino is a star studded film based in Las Vegas of old. The mob run town and the corrupt backstage of the casino life that saw some of the most notorious mobsters of all time come into light. Robert De Niro plays a sports handicapper by the name of Sam “Ace” Rothstein in this crime thriller. Climbing the ranks, Ace begins running the Tangiers casino. His own crime spree begins to cause trouble as the film takes off and Ace makes an enemy of just about everyone no one wants as an enemy and must trust his closest allies to get out of dodge.

California Split – 1974

A casino comedy about two men who meet at a poker table and become fast friends after being accused of collusion. Bill Denny (George Segal) and Charlie Waters (Elliot Gould) go on a tear through the gambling world after Bill, who isn’t much of a gambler at first) becomes indebted to his bookie. After winning a small fortune, Bill gives up gambling and and the two men go their separate ways.

The Cooler – 2003

Bernie Lootz (William H. Macy) is the unluckiest gambler at the Shangri-La casino and is hired to become a Cooler – someone with a professional level of bad luck. After deciding to leave Vegas, the casino owner hires Natalie (Maria Bello) to fall in love with Bernie to keep him in the casino business. Unfortunately for the casino, Natalie falls for Bernie and becomes his good luck charm. His luck turns too good and the couple have to get out of Vegas before they are murdered.

Mississippi Grind – 2015

Ryan Reynolds and Ben Mendelsohn star in this warning film about the dangers of gambling addiction. The two meet at a bar and begin a rollercoaster ride of the ups and downs of degenerate gamblers. After a crushing ride from St. Louis through Mississippi, Curtis gives Gerry $100 and sneaks off to collect the winnings from a wager he hadn’t told Gerry about. He tries to enter a poker game the two had planned to play together, but isn’t allowed. The two later reunite at a blackjack table and between the two of them they clean the house and part ways with a quarter million apiece.

Ocean’s Eleven – 2001

One of the most known movies on the list, Ocean’s Eleven (and its sequels) tell the story of Danny Ocean and his crew and the ultimate casino heist. The incredibly complicated plan is enacted to steal $150,000,000 from the Bellagio. The all-star cast create a comic wonderland as they prepare and eventually succeed in their plan before driving off into the sunset. The movie is a remake of a less popular Rat Pack film from the 1960s with the same title.
