GOSU GUIDE

Created by Bob Kane and Bill Finger, Batman came into the world in March of 1939 in the 27th issue of Detective Comics. Over the past century, this vigilante with a bat-inspired persona has become a pop culture icon and has made his way across various mediums.

Based on the research we did for this article, he has been used as a central figure in eighteen online slots. Unfortunately, none of these are jaw-dropping or super creative reel-spinners, and many have vanished, but based on what we have analyzed, here is what we believe to be the best reel-spinning choices with Batman in them.

Batman v Superman Dawn of Justice

Batman v Superman Dawn of Justice was a long-awaited film that pitted two of the superhero genre’s most famous characters. It was a movie that acted as a segment in the DC Comics cinematic universe that began with 2013’s Man of Steel. Dawn of Justice, like Man of Steel, was also directed by Zack Snyder, and it grossed $874 million at the worldwide box office. While this figure may appear massive, it is vital to note that this film did not meet commercial expectations and got middle-of-the-road to bad reviews.

Playtech, which owns some type of DC Comics license, released a slot version of this movie at the start of 2018. We do not understand why the Dawn of Justice reel spinner arrived so late and did not use the momentum of its cinematic counterpart. We assume Playtech could not get the rights in time. That out of the way. This is a fairly unspectacular game. But it uses imagery from Batman vs. Superman Dawn of Justice and has Jeremy Irons’, Diane Lane’s, Gal Gadot’s and Jesse Eisenberg’s characters as in-game symbols. Along with Ben Affleck’s Batman and Henry Cavill’s Superman, of course.

The gameplay here happens on a 5×3 grid with twenty-five paylines, and you get shifting wilds, expanding tokens, a free spins bonus, and a jackpot reward. If you are a fan of the film and eager to check out this game, we must tell you that we played it years ago but struggled to find it anywhere when we wrote this article. Perhaps Playtech’s rights expired, and it has gotten pulled from gambling sites. We are unsure what has occurred here.

Playtech’s Old-School Batman Series

Batman was a live-action TV show starring Adam West as Bruce Wayne, which ran for three seasons on ABC from 1966 to 1968. It featured one hundred and twenty episodes and has attained cult status primarily due to its cheesiness. Well, Playtech also has the rights to use the imagery featured in this television series, and they created a slot franchise in 2016, where Batman (Adam West) and Robin (Burt Ward) go up against some of the show’s most famed villains, fighting them on digital reels.

Hence, the entries in this reel-spinning product franchise are Batman & The Joker Jewels, Batman & The Penguin Prize, Batman & Mr. Freeze Fortune, Batman & The Batgirl Bonanza (not a villain), Batman & Catwoman Cash, and Batman & the Riddler Riches.

Unlike Batman v Superman Dawn of Justice, you can track down these titles, as many casinos still carry them, and in our opinion, from this selection, the game we liked the most was Batman & Mr. Freeze Fortune. It has up to 2,400 betways, a 5×4 grid, multiplier wilds, and a Wild Mr. Freeze Spins bonus.

Batman Begins

Christoper Nolan’s Batman Begins represented the first entry in this director’s Batman movie trilogy, starring Christian Bale in the title role, with Michael Caine as Alfred, and supporting roles from Gary Oldman, Liam Neeson, Rutger Hauer, Ken Watanabe, Katie Holmes, Morgan Freeman, Cillian Murphy, and Tom Wilkinson. So, a star-studded cast, no doubt.

The slot iteration of this movie showed up online in the same year as Batman v Superman Dawn of Justice, 2018, the year Playtech went a little Batman crazy. Batman Begins characters appear here, and some of the main features you get to enjoy in this rather basic 5×3 title are multipliers, random and sticky wilds, expanding symbols, re-spins, and a jackpot reward. The variance level in this game should be medium, and the RTP is 95.03% by default. Like the previously discussed slots, you can also still play this one for prizes, as it is still available at various gaming hubs.

The Dark Night & The Dark Knight Rises

These are Games Global (Microgaming) creations. The first debuted in 2012 as a medium variance spinner with an RTP of 97% and 243 betways, and the second showed up online a year later, boasting similar specs. They both implement visuals from their respective films, so they feature scene screen-grabs for symbols.

It appears that Microgaming at the time bought the license from this film franchise from Warner Bros. Pictures, and then Playtech picked it up and made a slot from the only movie Batman Begins Microgaming did not cover. We could also not locate a site with these slots, as we assume they have disappeared from the Web. Thankfully, we remember playing them back in the day, and from the pair, we are quite certain that The Dark Knight Rises was the more enjoyable Batman romp, featuring Bane and Batman free spins rounds, each with different attributes in play.

SuperHeroes

As noted in the intro, quite a few more virtual Batman-inspired one-armed bandits have gotten released over the years. Yet, sadly, you would be hard-pressed to test your luck on these, as virtually all of them have gotten removed from the Internet. You may be able to find a demo version of some here and there, but we doubt you want to waste your time with that.

That is why we chose to include, as our final pick, a game that is on hand somewhere and one you can play. That is 2016’s SuperHeroes by Play Labs. What we have here is a slot that implements a comic book visual style and has primarily Marvel characters. It includes Wolverine, Hulk, Spiderman, Iron Man, and Batman for some reason. We doubt Play Lab paid any rights here, as you only see the eyes of these renowned heroes, and we think this is deliberately to avoid getting sued. But still, it is quite clear who they represent. Spec-wise, you get an RTP of 96.12% in this medium-variance product with a max win of x1,500, twenty betways, and a top wager of $20. It has a free spins bonus and a mini-slot round.
