Apache Way Slot Review

We have reviewed our fair share of Red Tiger slots in the past. If memory serves, we have analyzed around ten games from this provider headquartered in the Isle of Man, active since 2014. In 2022, the company has been fairly busy, churning out two to three reel-spinners per month. They released three games in July, and the first of the trio to show up in online casino lobbies was Apache Way, debuting on July 7th everywhere. The slot made a sizeable splash launch upon appearing at gambling sites as it entered the top one hundred rankings in multiple markets. However, it quickly fizzled out, and at writing, it is treading in 1,500-territory. Still, we here at BTCGOSU have a fondness for Red Tiger’s titles, seeing them as a blend of simplicity and unique game mechanics, so we decided to break our short review hiatus with a rundown of this Native American-themed spinner.

Theme & Design
As you likely know, the Wild West is a popular motif for interactive gaming developers. NetEnt’s Dead or Alive threw this theme into the limelight. That said, there are around a hundred and thirty Native American-inspired reel-spinning games at online casinos. You may not think a game like Pragmatic’s Bronco Spirit qualifies as such, but it does. The same goes for Howling Wolves by Booming Games, as both utilize North American tribal culture elements.
The Apache Way slot, as its name suggests, uses the group of native tribes that lived in the Southwestern US as its primary subject. The culturally-related tribes that fall into the Apache category are Mescalero, Mimbreño, Ndendahe, Chiricahua, Jicarilla, Lipan, Salinero, and the Plains Indians. Most US history-savvy individuals likely know that the Navajo are a distant cousin of the Apache. And that they share the Southern Athabaskan language.
The Apache representation in this game is cartoony. Since we are not historians, we cannot verify if the war paint and headdress featured here are accurate. We can only confirm that they look good. As mentioned, the visuals here are painterly graphics, and this slot gives away a very similar visual vibe to some of Pragmatic’s Gold games. In particular, Wolf and Buffalo King. The reels here spin inside a tribal monument, and the background is an Arizona-like desert landscape. The music is a soft drum line, with some flutes thrown in, which we quite liked. Apache Way uses the line win animation popularized by Book of Dead whenever you form a winning combo, and the music picks up in the Free Spins mode, as expected.
The button setup here is the same one featured in all newer Red Tiger games. The spin button is in the lower right corner of your screen, while the bet-adjuster and the auto-spin one are on the left. You will find the settings and mute options in the top right.
Specs & Gameplay
Apache Way is a high variance Red Tiger release that boasts a max win of x2,571 your bet. The most you can wager on this twenty-five-payline slot that utilizes a 5×3 grid is $100, and the lowest wager possible is $0.10. So, the max win potential of Apache Way is $257,100 for those who are brave enough to bet a cool hundred bucks on a single spin. Note that the RTP of this game ranges from around 90.6% to 95.75% for non-jackpot variants and 90.1% to 94.74% for jackpot ones. The contribution rate for the latter options moves from 1% to 6%, depending on the hosting operator.
The low-paying symbols of Apache Way are your typical card royals, A to 10, in different colors, with various tribal wrappings. They pay from x0.6 to x2.5 for five identical tokens landing on the grid on the same rotations. The premiums in this game are a snake, cougar, bear, and eagle, paying from x7 to x20 for five-of-a-kind. The female Apache is the Wild here, substituting all other pay symbols and producing wins of x20 when she appears five times in view on the same spin. Symbol combos here pay from left to right on adjacent reels.
Sun tokens are Scatter symbols in Apache Way. They may lock for a random amount of spins. There are also Free Spins Scatters that allow access to this game’s bonus round, and Mega symbols appear to help you form massive wins in this mode.
Bonus Features
There are two bonus features in Apache Way. The first is the Ritual of the Sun. It activates when six sun tokens land in view. When that occurs, three re-spins get awarded with these tokens stuck in place. If a new one lands during the re-spins, it too locks in place, and the re-spin meter resets to three. When you run out of spins, the feature ends, and the values of all the sun tokens get tallied up and awarded.
To enter the Apache Way Free Spins round, you must be lucky enough to land three Free Spins Scatters. In such a scenario, the game produces five complimentary reel rotations, and in this mode, Mega symbols appear on the middle three reels. It is possible to activate the Ritual of the Sun feature in the Free Spins round if the Mega sun Scatter pops up here.
GOSU Verdict
Fun for newbies. Yet, likely boring for veterans. The gameplay here hinges on a version of the hold-and-win mechanic. Nevertheless, in our opinion, that is not enough to keep experienced gamblers interested for very long. The base max exposure of Apache Way is decent but not overly impressive for a high variance slot. And the presentation, while pleasing, will not blow anyone’s socks off. We rate Apache Way so-so. We don’t want to knock it, but it just did not provide the fun levels we expected it would. If you are a fan of Wolf Gold, Mustang Gold, and Bronco Spirit, then give it a go. Otherwise, look for another Indian-theme slot that may satisfy your reel-spinning needs.
