Gates of Olympus Slot Review
We may want to lay off with our Pragmatic Play slot reviews, as BTCGOSU visitors may get the idea that we are getting paid to feature their games so heavily. However, those that read our reviews know that we rarely go out of our way to praise Pragmatic’s products, mainly rating them as slightly above average. That said, players must love them, as they continuously elevate them to the top one hundred rankings. Gates of Olympus, released in February of 2021, at the time of writing, is the 35th most-played slot in the interactive gaming sector. That is its highest ranking after entering the top one hundred in August of this year. Thus, let us scan it and see what all the recent fuss is about.

Theme & Design
Clearly, the theme is Greek mythology here, one of the most used motifs in online gambling. Current estimations put the number of Ancient Greece-inspired slots at over one hundred, with Age of the Gods: God of Storms from Playtech dominating this landscape at present. Gates of Olympus features Zeus as its main character and his temple at the top of mountain Olympus as the game’s background.
Visually, this Pragmatic release will not blow anyone’s socks off, but it is sufficiently pleasing to the eye. The graphics are about what you would expect from this developer. They are vibrant, boasting an animated show feel. The soundtrack is also par for the course. We are not knocking the presentation here, only stating that it is nothing impressive. It works, for the most part. The animated flames add some depth to the scene as the reels spin inside a golden frame.
The button interface is the one Pragmatic has used for years now. We are a bit tired of continuously having to describe it. The spin button and the bet adjuster are on the left side of the screen, and everything else is on the right.
Specs & Gameplay
Gates of Olympus utilizes a six-reel, five-row layout. It also implements a pay-anywhere system. Bet sizes here go as low as $0.2 and as high as one hundred bucks. The variance of this game is high, and the default RTP is a disappointing 95.51%. Though it can rise to 96.5% at some operators, but can also drop to 94.5% at others. The max exposure here is x5,000 a gambler’s wager.
Gates of Olympus uses the tumble/avalanche mechanic. That means that whenever a winning combination forms, the symbols that are a part of it disappear, leaving room for new ones to fall in their place. Such sequences can continue until no new winning combos form, as there is no limit regarding possible avalanches. Winning combos consist of more than eight matching symbols appearing on the grid.
The low-paying symbols of this slot are different colored gems, paying out prizes of x2 to x10 for twelve or more identical tokens. The high-paying symbols here are a chalice, a ring, a sand clock, and a crown. Twelve or more matching images from this batch can produce wins of x12 to x 50. Naturally, the crown is the most valuable image of the four.
Multiplier gems are circular ones with golden wings. They can display values from x2 to x500, which get applied to a tumble/avalanche sequence. Zeus is the Gates of Olympus’ Scatter, and he always pays x100 a bet when this sky god appears six times on the reel grid on a spin.
Landing four or more Zeus Scatters gains players entry in the Free Spins round, where extra reels are in play. Inside this mode, players get credited with fifteen complimentary reel rotations. Plus, whenever they hit a multiplier symbol inside it, its value gets added to a total one, paid off at the end of the round. If three or more Scatters appear in the Free Spins round on the same spin, five new complimentary reel rotations get provided.
Gates of Olympus has an ante bet option that can grow a bet by 25%, adding extra scatters onto the grid, doubling the odds of a player gaining entry into the Free Spins round. In some jurisdictions, this game has a Bonus Buy button that instantly activates the Free Spins mode for a price of x100.
Essentially, this is a reskin of Pragmatic’s Sweet Bonanza. Maybe some players have gotten a bit tired of that sugary spinner and have migrated over to this Greek mythology-themed game. Perhaps that is the reason for its recent success. Gates of Olympus does not set any trends, nor does it establish anything innovative. Despite all that, it is an enjoyable slot that is pretty decent in its own right. However, we doubt that it will have any staying power. Expect it to go by the wayside in the next year or so.
