We know what you are thinking – not another Nolimit City slot review. Well, they are amongst our favorite developers, so we plan on going through their entire catalog. Do not worry. Though they have been around since 2014, they only have something like forty-plus titles. We have to give this one the royal treatment, as it is one of their most talked-about releases. Out of all of Nolimit City’s slots, popularity-wise, only East Coast vs. West Coast, Deadwood, and San Quentin are ahead of this one. It hit online casinos in February of 2020 and is one of the few music genre-themed reel-spinners in the interactive gaming space. Let us evaluate if it is worth your time.

Theme & Design

As the name suggests, the theme here is punk rock. For the uninformed, it was a music genre whose roots date back to 1960s US garage rock. It flourished in the 1970s and became a massive cultural phenomenon in mid to late-1970s Britain. Through it, British youth rebelled against the establishment, expressing their anti-authoritarian ideologies via song and clothing. Most lyrics to punk rock songs were political and short, while the music was fast-paced and rough-sounding.

Nolimit’s title captures this subculture’s anarchistic motifs, infusing them with pop art visuals. The base game plays out in what appears to be a late-1970s London street. How do we know that? Well, we can make out Big Ben in the background as the reel-grid spins in front of a graffiti-ridden wall. The reel grid gets flanked by two electric guitars, and there is a red phone booth to the right of it. The visuals here are painterly, but they also have somewhat of a grungey aesthetic.

Specs & Gameplay

By default, Punk Rocker is a five-reel, three-row slot that uses the 243-ways-to-win-format. However, thanks to the xWays mechanic, the reel-grid can increase to a size of 6×6, making the ways-to-win jump to 46,656. Naturally, the variance is high, and the RTP is a default 96.11%. If you opt to buy your way into the Bonus Round, the RTP improves by 0.53%. Know that some operators may carry a version of this game that has a default RTP of 94.10%, so always check. The low-paying symbols are workman-like boots, brass knuckles, Molotov cocktails, distortion pedals, and the anarchy logo. A skull is the Molotov Wild, and it can hit in both the base game and the Riot Respins. Know that, during the Free Spins Round, Jumping Wilds come into play. A wire fence with the word Bonus over it is this game’s Scatter, and when an xWays icon hits, it will expand the reels.

Bonus Features

Much like many other Nolimit City slots, this one also has the proprietary xWays feature. It increases the number of symbols on a reel, expanding the ways to win.

Landing two Scatters on a single spin will activate the Riot Re-spins mode. The Scatters will morph into Sticky Wilds, and you get a re-spin on the unlocked sixth reel with 726 ways to win in play. If you manage to land new Wilds, they also become sticky, and you get an additional re-spin.

Hitting three Scatters gets you access to the Anarchy Free Spins while landing four will gain you entry in the Civil War mode.
