Another week, another Nolimit City review. We have already made our feelings known regarding Nolimit slots. We love them. In our opinion, there is currently no other provider that offers as many inventive bonus features per game as this Swedish developer. Thus, we felt it was time to step away from their new releases and look back at one of their lesser-played games. Bonus Bunnies hit online casinos in June of 2020 and did not make a big splash. After lingering around the top 200-mark in the first week of its release, interest in this game dropped significantly. Though, currently, it seems to be slightly more popular than Nolimit’s Barbarian Fury, which we found surprising.

Theme & Design

What is the theme here? Well, it’s serene farm life. However, instead of humans, the farmers seem to be bunnies. As you would assume, carrots also play a role in this title. Fun fact, the word carrot derives from the Ancient Greek karōtón, which means horn. Another bit of trivia is that this root vegetable originated from Persia. Inside the base game, you can see carrots strung up on both sides of the reel grid, which has a wooden frame. The backdrop is an idyllic countryside estate, with picket fences in the foreground and mountainous terrain in the back.

Bonus Bunnies’ graphics are painterly. In all honesty, the character design and some of the visuals here reminded us of early-2000s Flash games. If you were an active internet user back in those days, you remember these. They featured similarly saturated 2D cartoon graphics and odd gif-like animation.

We quite liked the soundtrack of this game, mainly because it is unobtrusive. You can hear subtle banjo music play in the background as you spin. It is enough to layer the game with some emotion, but you also barely notice that it’s there at all. The sound effects also keep things upbeat.

The button configuration is your usual Nolimit City one. On a desktop, the spin and auto-spin buttons are on the right side of your screen. Below them is your balance. On the left side are the mute, bet-adjuster, and settings buttons. Above them is a yellow star, which you press if you wish to pay your way inside the Free Spins Bonus Round.

Specs & Gameplay

Bonus Bunnies is a four-reel, four-row slot with thirty available paylines. Bet sizes here range from $0.2 to $100, and the max exposure is a decent x6,950 your stake. The default RTP is 96.15%, but it increases by 0.29% when you pay to enter the Bonus Round where the reel grid expands. The variance of Bonus Bunnies is medium-high, with a hit frequency of 18.12. You form winning combos in this game by matching three to four symbols on adjacent reels left to right.

The low-paying symbols here are your standard 10-A royals in the form of nailed wooden planks. Landing four identical royals gets you a prize that is either x1 to x2 your stake. The high-paying symbols are four vibrant vegetables. These are an onion, and eggplant, two peas in a pod, and a tomato. The latter is the most valuable from this batch, and hitting four tomatoes on the grid will get you a reward of x15 your stake. Four-of-a-kind from the remaining three symbols will payout a prize of x7.5 (four green peas), x3.75 (four eggplants), and x2.5 (four onions).

The golden carrot is this game’s Wild, and it substitutes all other symbols except the Scatter, which is the bonus rabbit. Hitting four Wilds on the grid also awards a prize of x15 your wager, the same as landing four tomatoes.

Bonus Features

Once you land a Wild (a golden carrot) and a Scatter (a bonus rabbit) on the reels together, the rabbit will hop out of his Scatter icon and eat the Wild, turning the entire reel Wild. If you hit a Wild and two Scatters on a spin, the two rabbits will expand the Wild position vertically and horizontally. The rabbit-less Scatter symbol also remains on the grid and acts as a Wild. All this provides a chance for you to rack up some decently-sized wins.

If you land three or four Scatters on a single spin, you enter the Free Spins Round named – Carrot Link. Here, the grid clears all the symbols, except for the landed Scatters. Those turn into carrots with multipliers attached (from x1 to x10). Inside this mode, you get three spins to land more carrots or character (three) symbols that will help you harvest bigger wins. Every time you land something, the free spins meter resets to three. The masked rabbit doubles all carrot multipliers on the grid, while the red-headed girl rabbit adds hers to each carrot. The farmer rabbit expands the grid by adding a row or reel, up to a max size of 5×5, before revealing his multiplier.

The goal in the Carrot Link mode is to fill the grid with symbols. The last position gets reserved for a shiny key. When it lands, it opens a chest that will award you an x3, x4, or x5 multiplier to your total Carrot Link won amount. The cost to activate this round is x60 your stake.
