Lights, Camera, Cash! Slot Review

GOSU GAME REVIEW

The last NetEnt game we looked at was Beach Invaders in late September. Since then, NetEnt has released several high-profile games, with Lights, Camera, Cash, hogging much of the spotlight in the eleventh month of 2023. What took us by surprise regarding this title is that it was the second most-played one by this provider in early November, behind the legendary Starburst in most markets. It was also doing relatively well almost everywhere, ranking in the top fifty in most notable regions at the time of writing and even in the top ten in the Netherlands at one point. It showed up online on November 2, 2023, and has primarily attained positive reviews. So, it is time we add our opinion to the slot expert pile and inform you what we think of this spinner.

Theme & Design

Technically, we can say that this slot has three themes. The first would be game shows. Then comes the diamond motif, and lastly, we have a cash concept. Diamonds get featured in over two thousand online reel-spinning products, so it would be a bit tiresome to go through what games you should explore from this category, as there are so many to choose from. We can tell you that Starburst has diamonds, and so does Bonanza by BigTime Gaming. Concerning TV show-related slots, the offer is much narrower, with around a hundred and fifty such titles available in online casino lobbies. Of these, Deal or No Deal World Slot from Shine Gaming and Spearhead’s Popstar draw sizeable interest. And on the cash/money front, Pragmatic Play’s The Money Men Megaways, Break Da Bank Again from Games Global, and Fortune Factory by Golde Blitz dominate.

The premise in Lights Camera, Cash! is that you participate in a game show en route to experiencing mega thrills, with your luck hopefully landing you some cash spills! We cannot say that this is a very visually engaging game, as it has somewhat of an old-school vibe. The reel-spinning action in this NetEnt hit plays out in a retro-type game show studio, with the reels spinning on a circular podium, with spotlights flashing behind them, and a lightbulb-packed frame going over them. Below it is the game’s logo and multipliers. The music used is for sure fitting, as it is an instrumental repetitive tune that has that dynamic game show sound to it. The sound effects are pretty good, and we like that they have gotten set at similar levels to the soundtrack, only slightly higher.

You can see some not-so-complex animations here, and the bet and spin functions sit along with a settings button below the 3×3 grid centrally. This configuration is flanked by the win balance on the right and the site one on the left. At the bottom of your screen, you have links that pop open the paytable and this game’s help page.

In total, we would call the presentation here Okay for the theme used, but it does not come close to being as riveting as the ones found in current-day top-end slots.

Specs & Gameplay

Lights, Camera, Cash! is a slot that no one would call complicated. It has three paylines on its 3×3 symbols position layout, accepting stake sizes that start at $0.1 and end at $1, officially. Though, in the demo version that NetEnt supplied, the max wager choice was $8. The hit frequency here is 12, and the variance is high. The most you can win in this game is a prize worth twenty-five thousand times your bet.

However, given the low available top wager, that is not much, particularly given that the variance model implemented in Lights, Camera, Cash! is high.

As you would assume, the three winning lines in this NetEnt title are the 3×3 grid’s three horizontal ones. Only number symbols, diamonds, and xReel scatters can appear on this game’s reels. The numbers available are zero, double zero, one, two, five, and ten. Notably, the ten can only appear on the first reel, while the double zero can solely land on the last one. The diamonds here get treated as blanks.

Each spin or Respin’s total win gets presented as a multiplier of the current bet, formed by the numbers that appear on the three paylines. Numbers on the same line get linked, while those from a different one will get totaled. So, for example, if the middle payline shows 5-diamond-5, the multiplier is x55. If you have a five on the upper line and a five on the middle one, the multiplier will be x10.

Bonus Features

Much of the gameplay in Lights, Camera, Cash! revolves around its respin feature. Initially, only the central payline is in play here, and when a winning combo forms with number symbols on this payline, a respin gets triggered. It activates the upper row, introducing the second payline. Another prize combination with numbers on any of the active paylines initiates another respin. That brings in a third reel on the screen. Subsequent respins are not available after the second one, and respins conclude when no new number shows up.

You also have an xReel feature in this online gaming product, which comes into play when the Bonus symbol lands in conjunction with a number on the same spin. That can happen during the same respin. The bonus token can activate the xReel feature even when it hits on inactive paylines, given the accompanying number has landed on active ones. Note that the bonus token also functions as a scatter. Plus, the xReel feature randomly bestows one of the available multipliers (x2, x3, x5, x10, x20, and x50) situated on the xReel. The multiplier awarded via the xReel feature applies to the win generated when the scatter hits, and know that only one scatter can hit per spin or respin.

GOSU Verdict

There seems to be something of a trend forming in the interactive gaming sphere of low-number payline spinners. Lights, Camera, Cash! seeks to jazz things up on its simple grid with respins and its xReel feature. The max win here is not alluring, but for those into retro gaming fun that features enhanced gameplay, this title may be interesting. That is not us, but it may be you. In conclusion, we will not recommend this game. Yet, we are sure that it will have its fans.
