Knight Rider Slot Review

GOSU GAME REVIEW

NetEnt has been conservative with releasing slots in recent times. You may remember our review of Gonzo’s Gold, which we posted in January. That game came out in mid-October 2021, and since then, NetEnt has only distributed two other titles. The first was SilverBack Gold, which we also reviewed, and the last reel-spinner this Swedish gaming juggernaut released was Knight Rider, based on the 1980s TV series of the same name.

Knight Rider hit online casinos on the 24th of February, and after a week-long stay in the top one hundred standings, it fell to the two hundred and fifty rankings. It is still hovering in this spot, despite going on an up and down ride in the past month. In this analysis, we look at if this game starring David Hasselhoff, building on NetEnt’s Drive: Multiplier Mayhem, delivers or not?

Theme & Design

Created by Glen Larson of Battlestar Galactica, B.J. and the Bear, and Magnum, P.I. fame Knight Rider debuted on the American network NBC in 1982 and ran for four seasons. Its plot revolved around self-made billionaire Wilton Knight who survives a gunshot to the face and alters his appearance via plastic surgery. Following this change, he becomes a field operative for the FLAG (the Foundation for Law and Government). He gets teamed up with a technologically advanced Pontiac Firebird Trans Am, which speaks thanks to an AI-powered computer called KITT.

Knight Rider was a substantial hit during its first couple of seasons, and it has survived as an established source of pop culture references to this day. NetEnt’s slot iteration of this show utilizes David Hasselhoff’s likeness to great effect. It also features sound clips from Hasselhoff and William Daniels (the voice of KITT) repeating various lines from the series. The visuals of this game are pretty plain painterly graphics. What irked us about this title is that some of the elements used in the animations have shadows and lighting that do not match their surroundings. In terms of presentation, NetEnt’s Knight Rider feels a bit basic. Plus, its sound effects get repetitive quickly.

NetEnt should have spent more time and effort crafting a better audio/visual style for this slot. At least, that is our opinion, as everything feels a bit generic here. It seems to lean toward utilizing the opening intro from the TV show and Hasselhoof a bit too much.

The gameplay panel is at the bottom of your screen. It holds the spin, turbo, and auto function in its central area. The bet-adjuster is left of these, and left of it is the info button and the settings one. The mute option is in the bottom right corner of your screen.

Specs & Gameplay

Knight Rider is a five-reel, four-row spinner boasting twenty-six paylines. It accepts wagers as low as $0.2 and ones as high as $40. The variance setting of this game is high, and its RTP is an average of 96%. We do not have a hit frequency for you but can tell you that the max win potential here is x7,000 your stake. Wins here form when you land three or more identical tokens on a predefined payline, left to right.

Knight Rider uses the traditional card royals as its low-paying symbols, and these pay x0.4 to x1.5 for five-of-a-kind. The high-paying tokens in this game are a watch, a steering wheel, a truck, KITT, and Hasselhoof’s character, Michael Knight. Getting five matching symbols from this batch will yield a prize of x2 to x4 your bet.

There are standard Wilds here (the word itself), which substitutes all the pay symbols and ones with multipliers attached. The title of the TV show is this NetEnt’s product’s Scatter.

Bonus Features

As touched upon, this game uses mechanics NetEnt utilized in Drive: Multiplier Mayhem. The Walking Multiplier Wilds feature consists of gameplay that mandates that when a Walking Multiplier Wild shows up on the game grid, it has a multiplier that corresponds to the reel it appeared on in that spin. For instance, if such a Wild lands on the game’s middle reel, it will have an x3 multiplier attached. Winning Walking Multiplier Wilds stay on the grid and move one position to the right at the start of the next reel rotation.

During the base gameplay, the Turbo Boost Feature can activate at random. The mode gets announced by a scene from the TV series of KITT performing Knight’s car’s fan-favorite action, the Turbo Boost. The thing with the slot feature of the same name is that it places three to four Walking Multiplier Wilds on the grid in random positions.

Landing three Scatters on the middle three reels activates the Knight Rider Free Spins Bonus Round. It kicks things off with ten complimentary reel rotations, and this bonus utilizes collectible chess knight symbols to fuel a Laser Wilds mode with four specific levels. When a knight symbol appears on the reels in this round, it gets collected. When three get gathered, you move up a level and get two new free spins, plus you get an extra Laser Wild, which is a Walking Multiplier Wild with a different name. Up to three Walking Multiplier Wilds can appear in this mode, and you can keep track of your knight collection through a meter on the left side of your screen.

You can buy your way into the described Free Spins Bonus round for x140 your stake.

GOSU Verdict

If you have played Drive, this game may have a been-there-done-that feel. Undoubtedly, it has nostalgia on its side for those in their 40s or above, but younger players may not see the appeal of Knight Rider. The bonus features of this slot give it a spice of dynamism, but overall, we were not big fans of it. It does have an RTP of 96%, which is slightly unusual for a high variance spinner, and the max payout is acceptable here. So, we are not saying that you should pass on this NetEnt release, only that it isn’t our cup of tea.
