In September 2023, news broke that Push Gaming was readying for massive growth after its MGM Resort International acquisition. From what we know, this entity gets managed independently as a separate company. And it remained true to its summer promise by expanding in the Swiss and Greek markets in late 2023. It also stayed on track regarding releasing premium online slots, unleashing three in December 2023. The games in question were Shamrock Saints, DJ Fox, and MGM Grand Gamble.

The one we have chosen to review this week is DJ Fox, which Push Gaming’s Senior Game Producer, Craig Turner, says is an attempt to diversify the provider’s catalog with a game that supplies fresh features. It is one that implements a meter lock mechanic found in some brick-and-mortar spinners, and it hit virtual gaming lobbies on the 14th of December, 2023. In the first week of its release, it entered the top fifty rankings in multiple major markets and the top ten list in Sweden. Below, we give it a scan and tell you if it is worth seeking out.

Theme & Design

We can say that the theme here is a fox playing music, and it is not wrong to cite DJ-ing as the motif of this spinner. How many slots feature a DJ theme? We decided to research this and found that there are around five hundred music-related online gambling games and around forty of these boast DJs in some form or fashion. The most popular ones from this group are The Rave by Nolimit City, which we love, Back to the 70s from Wazdan, and Elk Studio’s DJ Wild. What we found interesting is that the interactive gaming sphere has a couple of branded DJ slots, like a Lilly Palmer one from GameArt and the Deadmau5 slot by Eurostar Studios. However, we would not rate these titles very highly.

Audio-visually – DJ Fox is pretty decent, and we expect that from Push Gaming. The setting here seems to be a stage with floor-to-wall speakers, with two massive ones flanking the 3×5 grid in the center. Right of it, you can see the futuristic-looking DJ Fox spinning plates on a hovering DJ setup. He has got a visor on and seems super engrossed in performing his art at a high level. Naturally, as you would think, this game has electro music playing, which is pretty mellow at first. Yet, when you start hitting VIP symbols, things liven up. The base soundtrack is a bit repetitive, and the fox displays a few animations when something of note happens on the 3×5 layout. Overall, we can’t say that the presentation here impressed us, but it was Okay. Blues and pinks dominate, and the design of DJ Fox guides the eye well to the symbol area in the center.

You will find all the game buttons here in the right-side section of your screen on a desktop browser. At the bottom, you have a three-option mini-stack that starts with a large spin button, above which rests the bet adjuster and the auto-spin icon, which only allows you to automate between ten and one thousand spins. It does not permit you to set loss and win limits/orders. In the top right corner are the mute button, the turbo-spin one, and the icon that pops open the game’s settings.

Specs & Gameplay

DJ Fox has three reels and five rows, which is quite the novel layout for this high variance slot. The bet sizes here start at $0.10 and end at $100. The slot’s max exposure setting stands at x10,000, and the number of paylines is between one and five, depending on the in-game scenario chosen. The RTP of DJ Fox is 96.28% by default. The other return-to-player percentages that you can see in this title list are 95.19%, 94.31%, 90.45%, and 88.49%.

Now, what you must understand about DJ Fox is that you can activate one to five rows per spin. That gets called the Push-Up feature. The more rows active, the higher the cost. For example, two in-play rows have a x2.5 price tag with an RTP of 96.42%. But five active rows come with a price tag of x10 with a return-to-player setting of 96.31%. When utilizing the Push-Up feature, victories get assessed based on the initial wager. Each reel position may reveal Duds, 00 to 9 symbols, or VIP tokens. Only symbols landing on active rows contribute, and winnings get determined by what is visible. Then, you divide that by ten. For instance, a combo like dud-1-dud appearing on an active row gives a prize of x0.1. Achieving a combination like dud-9-9 on a highlighted row will result in a reward of x9.9.

Bonus Features

DJ Fox has only a few features. They start with the VIP symbols mentioned above, and when one of these shows up on an active section. It activates the next locked row, triggering a respin. The VIP symbol then gets collected on the Multiplier meter. As new rows become active, VIP tokens on those rows also contribute to the Multiplier meter. During respins, positions with dud symbols get spun again while numbers remain in place.

To unlock win multipliers, segments of the Multiplier meter must get filled. VIP symbols pack the lower meter segments. At the end of a round, the total win gets multiplied by the highlighted value, and at the start of a new one, all multiplier meter positions are inactive.

The Meter Lock is a random event that freezes progress on the Multiplier meter. It activates at the end of a round with added VIP symbols. The Meter Lock status gets linked to the selected wager, becoming inactive if the player alters the bet or activates Push-Up.
